How fibre optics works

The world of communications has come a long way in the last ten years, allowing information to be transmitted very quickly. A great improvement that is becoming more and more widespread is fibre optics. Today we will explain how this communication system works.

How fibre optics works

Optical fibre makes it possible to move from the traditional 20 Mb/s speed to which we were accustomed by ADSL companies to a range between 50 and 100 Mb/s. This great increase in speed is due to the transmission medium used: light. Light has a much higher speed than electricity. To use this medium for transmission, special cables filled with a special transparent fibre are used to reflect the light all along the cable. For this transmission system to work properly, bending the cables should be avoided as much as possible.

Here is a video explaining how to do it. all the workings of fibre optics in detail.
