Special: How to make a metal detector I

In this first special invention, I'll show you how to make a step-by-step metal detector like mine, I will try to make this post usable for all audiences, but it is inevitable that those who have no idea about electronics will not know anything about it. For those interested, it is not a 1000€ detector, it is a detector to entertain yourself building it, however it has nothing to envy to the most mediocre detectors (between 100 and 400€), I spent a total of about 50€, and it gave me enough to buy the materials. to make three detectorsIn addition, in our shop you have all the necessary components to make the board at the best possible price.

The detection depth is not bad either (this does not usually vary much between detectors), it is about 10cm with the smallest coins (1, 2 and 5 cents). So that you can start to get your teeth into it before you start:

Homemade metal detector

The markings shown in the photos, which are basically the only three parts of the detector, indicate:

  1. The hinge optional so that the detector takes up less space (I don't recommend it if you are going to use it often).
  2. The plateI put a plastic bag over the coil, or large coil, which is what goes on the ground when we use it, to prevent damage from rubbing against the ground of the coil itself (it does not affect detection).
  3. The boxThe most important part of the whole assembly, where is the circuit, the small coil and where we will place the battery, the audio auxiliary and the ignition switch.

To make this simpler, let's follow these three parts.

1- (Optional) The hinge

1.1- Materials

Materials for making a metal detector

  • Wooden stick 1.30m long and 2cm in diameter (this can vary according to taste, there is no need to be so strict).
  • Round hinge, it is the mechanism itself that opens and closes the detector.

1.2- Assembly

I repeat that this point is optional, as it is very good to have it stored, but if you are going to use it, it is a nuisance, because it is not completely fixed and it wobbles too much, however, with other types of hinges it may be fine, who knows, it is a matter of trying it.

Metal detector hinge

Special: How to make a metal detector I 1

  1. First of all, we must cut the wooden stick right down the middle, logically so that when we close it, it is exactly in the middle and takes up as little space as possible.
  2. Make a hole of the same diameter and depth as the hinge in each part, sticking it as close as possible to the edge where the detector is to be closed, to avoid unnecessary overlapping.
  3. Insert the hinge into the holes, trying to make sure it is flush with the wood (if not, I recommend taking the hinge out again and making the hole deeper). After inserting the hinge, impregnate with hot silicone the edges of the hinge itself, being very careful not to stain or interpose the mechanism itself, to avoid a bad closing of it, with this we will avoid that the hinge comes out of its holes (although it is quite tight, I recommend to do it so that it does not give us a scare while we are looking around).

Well, following these steps you shouldn't have any problems doing it, but if you have any doubts, post them in the forum and I will be happy to answer them.

    1. In Carrefour they sell the obi wan kenoby sword....
      Or Dark Vader....
      Your choice.....
      Blue laser...
      O red laser....

  1. Hello, You have to be very careful not to turn the board upside down, the board has two sides, one side has the components and the other side has the tracks, once they have been formed into your circuit.

  2. There is no way you could sell me one with a 3 to 5 metre depth detector and how much you would give it to me. ????

  3. Hla, I'm new. could you explain me how to make the drill coil, the diameter and the amount of wire? grs.
